Strengths

  • + Extremely agile and reactive handling — never mushy, encourages playful riding
  • + Outstanding climbing for a lightweight eMTB — one of the best in its class
  • + 20.3kg with 160mm travel is a rare lightweight enduro combination
  • + Natural motor feel with the smoothest 25 km/h cutoff in the industry
  • + PowerMore 250 range extender compatible — up to 650Wh total for big days
  • + Clean motor integration and arguably Merida's best-looking eMTB design
  • + Mullet-capable via flip-chip for more playful 27.5" rear character

Weaknesses

  • 400Wh base battery genuinely limiting — barely sufficient for big days without extender
  • Firm suspension and stiff frame cause arm pump on extended rocky descents
  • Motor demands high cadence (100+ rpm) for full power — struggles on steep tech at low rpm
  • Audible motor rattle on descents and louder whine than some newer alternatives
  • Low front end geometry reduces confidence on very steep descents
  • Not forgiving of riding mistakes — demands confident line selection
  • RockShox Select+ tier shows limits on sustained rough terrain vs Factory-level

Motor: The Bosch SX delivers smooth, natural assistance and the smoothest 25 km/h cutoff in the industry. At 2.05kg it saves ~900g vs CX. However, it demands high cadence for full power — on steep technical climbs below 50 rpm, assistance drops significantly. MBR suggested it may be 'the wrong Bosch motor' for a 160mm enduro platform, where instant low-rpm torque matters most.
