Strengths
- + Better components than CF 7 — upgraded RockShox ZEB damper and drivetrain
- + 800Wh battery enables genuine all-day enduro range
- + 180/175mm travel communicates security and handles big impacts confidently
- + Mullet setup (29/27.5) with 63.5° HA for maximum stability at speed
- + Canyon D2C value — strong spec level for the price
- + Plush suspension setup ideal for bike park and shuttle days
- + New Darfon IP7 battery with improved waterproofing
Weaknesses
- − Still uses Shimano EP8 — adequate power but lacks EP801's refinement and response
- − ~24kg heavy — struggles on flat terrain and above assist cutoff
- − Small gap to CF 9 which gets EP801 + Fox 38 Elite — hard to justify the downgrade
- − Battery recall history
- − Long chainstays reduce agility in tight switchbacks
- − EP8 motor response adequate but noticeably slower than EP801 on steep tech
- − Overkill travel for anything less than serious enduro terrain
Motor: The Shimano EP8 is an improvement over the CF 7's EP600 but still a step below the EP801. It provides 85Nm torque with adequate response, but the CF 9's EP801 offers noticeably better refinement for a modest premium. On a demanding enduro platform, the motor quality matters — spend the extra for the CF 9.
