Strengths
- + Shimano EP801 delivers class-leading natural power with 85Nm instant torque
- + 800Wh new Darfon IP7 battery provides massive all-day range (150g lighter than predecessor)
- + Post-recall pricing makes it extraordinary value for a carbon AM eMTB with EP801
- + Fox 38 Rhythm fork handles aggressive terrain confidently
- + 160/150mm travel with mullet wheels — versatile from trail to enduro-lite
- + Canyon D2C pricing significantly undercuts competitors
- + Shimano EP801 ecosystem is proven, well-supported globally, and tuneable
Weaknesses
- − Battery recall history (end 2024) — comprehensive fix but reputation impact
- − ~23-24kg feels heavy above assist cutoff and on flat terrain
- − D2C model means battery replacement requires shipping bike to Canyon
- − Fox 38 Rhythm fork is adequate but lacks adjustability of Performance/Factory
- − 800Wh replaces previous 900Wh — slightly less range than original design
- − Heavier than lightweight alternatives when motor assistance runs out
Motor: The Shimano EP801 is widely considered one of the best full-power eMTB motors for natural feel combined with instant 85Nm torque. On this AM platform it excels — responsive at low cadence on steep climbs, smooth power delivery, and excellent Shimano ecosystem support. A massive upgrade over the CF 7's EP600.
